Bacterial Morphology

This category contains photographs of pure cultures of bacteria covered during courses in food microbiology at the Department of Veterinary Microbiology.

The cultures have been grown on Blood Agar plates (calf blood) incubated aerobically at 37°C for 24 hours, unless otherwise stated. The photographs have been taken using direct light. In cases where the bacterium causes an alteration of the blood, for example haemolysis, a second picture of the same Blood Agar examined with transmitted light is shown.

Photomicrographs of phase contrast as well as few Gram stain preparations are shown. These photographs were taken at 1000x magnification.

Use the drop-down menu in the top right-hand corner to choose bacterium.
